This photograph, taken between 1960 and 1969, shows the Istana Kampong Glam, before it was converted into the Malay Heritage Museum in 1999. The Istana Kampong Glam is the historic home of Malay Royalty in Singapore. It was built in 1840, and is located at Sultan Gate at Kampong Glam. Today, it is home to the Malay Heritage Museum, with galleries showcasing the roots, history and culture of the Singapore Malays.
