Bencoolen Street : general view [1]

This 1992 photograph shows Bencoolen Street, from the corner of Middle Road, towards Bras Basah Road. In the centre of the picture can be seen rows of two-storey shophouses. Blocks of Housing and Development Board flats can also be seen in the background. Bencoolen Street was named after the British colony on the west coast of Sumatra where Sir Stamford Raffles was Lieutenant Governor. Title devised by Library staff.
