This 1983 photograph shows Bras Basah Road (view towards Dhoby Ghaut junction). It depicts a row of two to three storeys shophouses with casement windows. Bras Basah is Malay for wet rice. In the early days, wet rice was laid to dry here on the banks of the Sungei Bras Basah, now known as the Stamford Canal. Title devised by Library staff.

View of building at 13 Dhoby Ghaut taken from Bras Basah Road. On the ground floor is the Lois Molteni Confectionery. The building was built by Teo Hoo Lye, a founding member of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce. In 1936, Mrs Loke Yew bought over the building and Cathay Building was constructed on its site. -
