Tank Road shophouses, 1972 : general view

Reproduction Available:

This is a 1972 photograph of a row of what are likely shophouses from the early style (1840-1990), as characterised by the lower heights, and minimal ornamentation on the façades and columns. Conjectures as to why Tank Road is so named include it being the site of construction of water storage tanks, it being named after a tank dug at the foot of Fort Canning, among others. Title devised by Library staff.
