This 1983 photograph depicts Bras Basah Road (at Bencoolen Street junction). It depicts a row of three storeys shophouses with arched windows. Bras Basah is Malay for wet rice. In the early days, wet rice was laid to dry here on the banks of the Sungei Bras Basah, now known as the Stamford Canal. Title devised by Library staff.
