This 1967 photograph shows a row of terrace houses, each featuring a loggia on its upper storeys. Meaning "wide road" in Malay, Jalan Besar was once a cultural melting pot housing people of different ethnicities such as the Chinese, Indians, Malays, Eurasians, among others.
