This 1982 photograph depicts the north-western side of Syed Alwi Road, towards Jalan Besar from King George's Avenue. It shows a view of a street with shophouse buildings along both sides of the road. Syed Alwi Road was earlier known as Syed Allie Road, named after Arab merchant Syed Allie Bin Mohamed Al Junied.
