This photograph shows a front view of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in Kuala Lumpur, with the wide padang or field sprawling in front of it. Completed just before the turn of the 20th century, it used to house many government offices. Its signature features which include its clock tower and minaret can be clearly seen in this photograph. The open field or padang hosted cricket games and is also known as Dataran Merdeka for being the venue that witnessed Malaysian independence. A few vintage cars are seen in front of the building.
