Dinner during Hungry Ghost Festival event at Hiap Chuan Joo sawmill, 1953



Hiap Chuan Joo was one of the largest sawmill factories in Singapore. Located at Balestier it produced wooden crates used for beverages including Coca-Cola and Tiger Beer. Taken in 1953 this photograph shows a view of the annual Hungry Ghost Festival event held during the seventh lunar month. This was taken before the start of the dinner. Some tables are already occupied. Title devised by Library staff.
