Interior night view of Jewel at Changi Airport during circuit breaker period [3]

"These photos were taken during circuit breaker period in May and June 2020. It shows an empty Changi Airport terminal 3, empty Jewel (in the night and day). Description/Story: From April to June 2020, the Singapore government imposed the circuit breaker in order to stop the covid 19 virus from spreading. As a result, residents were only allowed to go out for essential services such as food. On 16 May, I went to Jewel to buy back dinner. I walked through Terminal 3 in order to get to Jewel and was able to capture the empty airport. Inside T3, the normal busy check in counters were deserted and there wasn't a single soul in sight. All flights to and from Singapore were grounded. The sight broke my heart; seeing our world class airport deserted. At Jewel, the mall was empty. Restaurants were still open for business but with very few customers. I was able to grab dinner at A&W without having to queue. The famous indoor waterfall - the HSBC Rain Vortex was switched off. It made sense, as there were barely any visitors to the airport. After collecting my takeaway dinner, I headed home, while feeling a sense of sadness. As a kid, I used to enjoy watching planes take off from the viewing gallery. Covid 19 taught us not to take for granted simple moments like this. As I write this, I don't know when we will be able to see planes taking off again, but I am confident that whatever comes our way, Singapore is well able to overcome it. :) "--Contributed by Regina Chan, as part of the "Documenting COVID-19 in Singapore" collection community call.
