This 1982 photograph shows Maghain Aboth Synagogue, located at Waterloo Street. The synagogue was completed in 1878, and is the oldest Jewish synagogue in Southeast Asia. It was gazetted as a national monument on 27 February 1998. Waterloo Street is named to commemorate the Duke of Wellington's victory over the French in 1815. Title devised by Library staff.
