Tank Road shophouses, 1987 : general view

Reproduction Available:

This 1987 photograph shows a row of classic three-storey, three-bay late-style shophouses (1900-1940). It features full-length French windows topped with fanlights (on the third storey), and a five-foot way that provides passing pedestrians with shade and shelter from the elements. There are several conjectures as to why Tank Road is so named, one of which is that it was the site where early water storage tanks were built. Title devised by Library staff.
