This 1982 photograph shows D'Almeida Street, towards Raffles Place. Commercial buildings can be seen by the side of the road. D'Almeida Street is named after Jose d'Almeida Carvalho E. Silva, a former Portuguese naval surgeon who came to Singapore to set up a dispensary and later became one of Singapore's leading merchants. The roads mentioned are in the Raffles Place area.
