First antiplague poster 1911



This photograph shows the first anti-plague poster and notices issued during the first pneumonic plague epidemic in Manchuria. All in Chinese, one of the notices is on work against the plague while the poster, on the bottom right, provides illustrations on the disease. The notice on the top right is written by Dr. Wu Lien-teh, a Penang-born physician. This photograph was taken in 1911. Title devised by Library staff.
