Hiap Chuan Joo was one of the largest sawmill factories in Singapore. Located at Balestier it produced wooden crates used for beverages including Coca-Cola and Tiger Beer. Taken between 23 and 24 January 1954 this photograph shows the interior of a partially completed building at the construction site of the sawmill factory at No. 516 Balestier Road.
