Trading boats trying to sell their goods at Port Said, Egypt : general view

This is a 1930s photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows three boats alongside the ship, with merchants trying to conduct trade with passengers on the ship. Bargaining is done by shouting to and fro between the merchant and the passenger. Money and goods will be traded via a basket that can be lowered down to the merchant’s boat or raised up to deck-level to the passenger. Date of creation estimated. Title devised by Library staff. Information contributed by Richard Hale.
