This 1890s photograph from G.R. Lambert & Co. shows a view of Pearl's Hill Road, with shophouses and a temple. This road was named after Captain James Pearl, owner and commander of the Indiana, which Raffles had set sail in on an expedition that led him to the founding of Singapore.
