This is a 1992 photograph which shows a wide angle view of Sussex Estate at Clement, with its rows of two-storey houses surrounding an open field. The houses have sloping tiled roofs and verandas serving the upper floors. Sussex Estate is named after the historic county of Sussex in England. The roads in the area has “English” sounding names such as Horsham, Arundel and Goodwood. The estate was developed in the mid-1950s to house the families of British senior non-commissioned officers. In 1975 when Clementi ws being developed, Sussex Estate was the only pre-development feature that was retained, but it was later demolished in 1997. The area where Clementi Avenue 1 is, used to be Sussex Estate. Title devised by Library staff.
