This 1992 photograph shows Bencoolen Street, towards Prinsep Street and Selegie Road. Rows of shophouses line one side of the street. In the distance, some high-rise buildings can be seen. A buildind under construction can be seen on the right side of the picture. Bencoolen Street was named after the British colony on the west coast of Sumatra where Sir Stamford Raffles was Lieutenant Governor. Title devised by Library staff.
