This is a pre-1914 photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows a traditional Malay kampong house on stilts, with a timber frame, attap roof and walls. The house is surrounded by coconut palms and other types of forestation. The people living in the house can be seen at the foot of the ladder on the side leading up to the balcony.
