Bukit Timah Road, northwards from Sarkies Road corner, 1985 : general view

Reproduction Available:

This 1985 photograph shows Bukit Timah Road (view northwards from Sarkies Road corner). Some buildings can be seen on the left side of photograph. Bukit Timah is Malay for tin hill, which is a misnomer, since no tin has ever been found in the area. Timah could also be a mispronunciation of temak, the Malay name for a species of tall rainforest tree. Title devised by Library staff.
