This is a 1982 photograph depicting the Singapore River at Boat Quay, from North Boat Quay at Canning Lane. Built in 1842, Boat Quay allows unloading of goods off boats, tongkangs and lighters along the Singapore River and delivering them to the merchants' godowns lining the quay. By late 1970s, the river was cleaned up and the godowns converted to restaurants and bars. Title devised by Library staff.
