This 1983 photograph shows shophouses at Bras Basah Road (at Dhoby Ghaut junction). It depicts the three storeys shophouses with wooden French windows at the upper floors. Bras Basah is Malay for wet rice. In the early days, wet rice was laid to dry here on the banks of the Sungei Bras Basah, now known as the Stamford Canal. Title devised by Library staff.
