Female street hawker at Chinatown, 1977
This 1977 photograph shows a female street hawker in the midst of preparing ingredients for her food stall in Chinatown. Vegetables hanging from hooks, a wire egg basket and other food ingredients are some of the items placed in the wooden framed glass shelf that sits on the counter of the food stall. These wooden-framed glass shelves are commonly used by street hawkers to protect their wares from the dust on the streets and are reminiscent of the street food culture in Singapore in the 1970s. Title devised by Library staff.
