This is a 1982 photograph showing Read Street, from Clarke Quay towards Clarke Street. Clarke Quay, named after Lt. General Sir Andrew Clarke, Governor of the Straits Settlements (1873 - 1875), was once full of godowns. It is now filled with restaurants, craft shops and a Sunday market. Read Street and Clarke Street are not found in the present day street directory. Title devised by Library staff.
