This photograph shows Dr. Wu Lien-teh standing on the steps outside a train. Dr. Wu, a Penang-born physician, was leading a Chinese-Russian research expedition. He was on his way to Siberia for plague investigation in a special train provided by the Russian-owned Eastern Railway in 1911. Another two men are on the steps outside the next carriage.
