About Us

MusicSG is a non-profit digital archive set up to digitise, archive and provide access to all forms of Singapore musical works. It assembles a collection of music composed or published by Singaporeans, music produced or published in Singapore, and music related to Singapore. 

By bringing together a suite of content on Singapore music, MusicSG aims to raise the awareness of Singapore music and provide resources for research and discovery. This is also part of the nation-wide initiative to preserve Singapore heritage.

MusicSG collects and provides the following digital contents on Singapore music:

  • Music recordings
  • Articles on topics related to Singapore music
  • Biographies
  • Lyrics
  • Scores

NLB's Role

The National Library Board (NLB) is the administrator for the MusicSG website and music archive. NLB is responsible for digitising, documenting, cataloguing and preserving the material(s), and reserves the rights to decide which material(s) to be published. 

 

Rights Ownership

The digitised recordings and/or the digitised versions of the related material(s) shall be the property of NLB. All other intellectual property rights in the work(s) remain with their respective owners. 

 

Accessing MusicSG

The MusicSG website is accessible over the internet. Certain copyrighted contents such as music recordings, lyrics and scores are only available onsite at NLB libraries. Availability of recording(s) on the MusicSG website, and type of access is subject to permission granted by respective rights owner(s).

Top Question: Can I access all content from home?

The MusicSG website is accessible over the internet. Certain copyrighted contents such as music recordings, are available for a 30-second preview online. As such, when you attempt to stream a track remotely, you will receive a message on your screen, indicating ‘preview of music available only’. This means a 30 seconds playback preview is available. For full playback, please access MusicSG’s website or onsite at NLB libraries.
