Kam Kee Yong is a violinist, composer, conductor and also a prolific artist. He is also the father of violinist Kam Ning. With his musical achievements, Kam was awarded the Cultural Medallion in Music in 1984. In this interview, Kam discusses his early childhood in Penang; his music education at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London; rubber tycoon and philanthropist Tan Boon Peng; art and poetry in his music; his composition 《老将行》 (“The Old General”); his daughter Kam Ning and Sonata “Huai Ku” (《怀古奏鸣曲》) as well as his stories on how he founded and led the People’s Association String Orchestra.
