Abstract:
喜鹰 (Xi Ying: The pleased eagle) represents one of Dr Wong Meng Voon (i.e. Huang Mengwen)’s most well-known micro novels. Set in Africa, the protagonist of the story is an eagle that is eagerly waiting to feed on human corpses, and in this case, a starving little girl who just lost her mother to hunger. From the eagle’s point of view, this story provides a new perspective of human crisis under war, poverty and hunger. With strong humanitarian sentiments, it also extols the unconditional love of a dying mother towards her daughter, protecting her from the preying eyes of the eagle.
