This is a photograph of Dr. Andrew Chew Guan Khuan, seating behind his office desk. He started his career in the Medical Service in 1956. He was Medical Superintendent of Thomson Road General Hospital (1964), Tan Tock Seng Hospital (1965-1967), Kandang Kerbau Hospital (Sep 1967-1968) and Outram Road General Hospital (Feb 1970-1971); Deputy Director of Medical Services (Nov 1971-1977); Permanent Secretary for Health and Director of Medical Services (Apr 1978-1984); Deputy Head and later Head of Civil Service (Sep 1984-Oct 1994); Permanent Secretary (Public Services Division) for Finance and Permanent Secretary (Special Duties) in Prime Minister's Office (1984-Oct 1994); Chairman of Central Provident Fund Board (Aug 1994-1998) and Public Service Commission (Aug 1998-July 2008); Member of the Board of Temasek Holdings (1990-May 1998) and Presidential Council for Minority Rights (1994-to date); and Pro-Chancellor of National University of Singapore (1996-to date). He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (1994), Distinguished Service Order (2002), and the Order of Nila Utama (Second Class, 2008) for his contributions to public service.
