Description
This is a picture of an Eurasian, Mr. George P. Owen holding a rifle in his right hand, standing behind one of his kills, a tiger. He was Secretary of Singapore Cricket Club from 1887 to 1920. He also served as an Assistant in Adamson Gilfillan and Company (1880); Superintendent of Singapore Fire Brigade (1901-1904); founder member of Polo Club and Singapore Golf Club; and Secretary of Singapore Sporting Club (later Singapore Turf Club). Tiger hunting was popular as a sport in the nineteenth century in Singapore. Title devised by Library staff.
