This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Yong Pung How (杨邦孝), Board Member of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) in 1972. He was admitted as Advocate and Solicitor of Singapore (1964); founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Singapore International Merchant Bankers Limited and Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Berhad (1971-1976); Vice-Chairman (1976-1982) and later, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (1983-1989); Director of Straits Trading Company Limited (Apr 1971-Aug 1982); Member of Securities Industry Council (1972-1981) and Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (1980-1985); Managing Director of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (March 1981-1983); Managing Director of Monetary Authority of Singapore (1982); Member of the Board of Commissioners of Currency (1982-1989); Deputy Chairman of Singapore Press Holdings (1984-1989); Director of Singapore Symphony Company (1987-1989); the first Chairman of Institute of Policy Studies (Jan 1988-Jun 1989); Chairman of Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (Dec 1985 - Jun 1989); Judge of the Supreme Court (Jul 1989-Sep 1990); and the second Chief Justice of Singapore (Sep 1990-Apr 2006). Mr. Yong was conferred the Distinguished Service Order in the 1989 National Day Awards. Title devised by Library staff.
