Description
This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Mr. Cheng Tong Fatt (郑东发), the first Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the People's Republic of China from July 1991 to 1998. He was General Manager and later Deputy Chairman of the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation from February 1980 to 1988. He was a trained Veterinarian; Director of the Primary Production Department for National Development (1962-1970); Permanent Secretary for National Development (Aug 1971-Feb 1979) and Culture (1979-1985); Acting Chairman (Sep 1978-Feb 1979) and later Chairman of the URA (Feb 1979-Aug 1981); Chairman (1976-1978) and later Deputy Chairman of the Housing and Development Board (1978); Ambassador to Japan (July 1988-1991) and South Korea (1990); and Ambassador-at-Large (2003). He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 1963 and the Meritorious Service Medal in 1970. Title devised by Library staff.
