Queen Elizabeth Walk, 1960s : general view


This 1960s photograph shows Queen Elizabeth Walk. In 1922, the reclaimed land along the Esplanade was called the Esplanade Park, where famous monuments stood, including the Cenotaph, the Lim Bo Seng Memorial and the Tan Kim Seng Fountain. On 30 May 1953 (Coronation Day), the Esplanade Park was renamed Queen Elizabeth Walk, to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth to the British throne. Title devised by Library staff.
