The Merlion, 1973 : side view

Shown in the picture at the Merlion Park near Clifford Pier, is the Merlion which weighs 70 tonnes and is 8.6m high. The part-fish, part-lion icon was situated at the mouth of the Singapore River as a tourism symbol. Photograph donated by Monita Lee, at the Heritage Roadshow 2008. HRS3_169.
