Abstract:
Goh Beng Kwan, a leading second-generation artist in the Singapore’s cultural scene, shares his experience about his life as an artist, the people who influenced him and the sources of his inspiration in this video interview. Although collage painting is his signature approach, Goh constantly experiments with other media such as acrylic on canvas, water colour, rice paper, Chinese ink, glass, etc. Winning the UOB Painting of the Year Competition in 1982 with his abstract collage painting ‘Sand Dune’ was a turning point in his artistic career, for he became a full time artist from then on. For his artistic contributions to Singapore, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion in Visual Arts in 1989. The interview was recorded on 27 Aug 2009.
