Abstract:
Abraham Isaac is a teacher of Latin, a philosopher and a father. As a young man he felt he had a valuable role to play as a proud citizen of a new country when he threw himself into the politics of Singapore in the 1950s and 60s. As an old man, he has lost touch with his early idealism and the burden of his years weighs on him heavily. A new student leads Abraham to reconciliation through memories of grand convictions, self-discovery and regrets.
